CSIET
Foreign exchange is a time-honored way to truly get to know another culture. The Council on Standards for International Education Travel (CSIET)www.csiet.org  provides information on international youth exchange programs that have been evaluated and found to be in compliance with CSIT Standards" (pg. v). "Listing is neither an endorsement of an organization nor a guarantee of the quality of its programs." (pg.i) (CSIET 2002-03 Advisory list)

This site,http://getstarted.csiet.org/?fuseaction=app.study, is a part of CSIET.  In it you name the country you wish to visit and it tells you which organizations send students to that country and includes links to those organizations.  This website is very well done and easy to use.

CONGRESS BUNDESTAG
Spend an academic year in Germany while living with a host family.  www.usagermanyscholarship.orgor http://www.asse.com/United_States/CBY.htm.  This is a full scholarship.

SEIREI CHRISOPHER
There are other groups that are not listed with CSIET that are legitimate as well. Ridgefield High School participates in an exchange program with Seirei Christopher High School in Hammamatsu, Japan. Students from Japan come to RHS for a year-long stay. Students from RHS may go to Japan for varying lengths of time--the most common is the 2-3 week summer trip. If you are interested in travelling to Japan or if you would enjoy hosting a student from this program, contact Martha Hancock, 619-1320.

LIONS CLUB
The Lions Club has its Youth Exchange Program. Students go to various countries for approximately 6 weeks and stay in members' homes. Students usually stay in two different homes and attend one camp during their time abroad.  http://www.ridgefieldlions.org/
